Influence of music in time estimation:
an analysis of answer components in university students
Abstract
The present study examines the role of music in latency components obtained through a time estimation task (one should bear in mind that this type of tasks have been related to cognitive processes in the literature). For this propose, a pilot sample has been selected where University students of music and a control group (without any notion of music) volunteered to take part. An analysis on the ex-Gaussian parameters has been carried out. Lower parameter values were found for the students of music in comparison with the control group. This might suggest a better execution for this group, as well as, some trainable aspects in this type of tasks, from music studies. However, more research in the field is necessary.
Keywords: music students, precision, response latency, ex-Gaussian parameters.
