Abstract: The specificity of a kind of reading is raised, the oblique reading, which is reflected in a very intense way certain poetic and folkloric texts, all of which is correlated with a phenomenological concept: the look, perspective or way of perception. The poetic look, the mythological look, look at the sacred order to look different from the banal and profane. Deconstructing myths therefore requires reading several records. The article develops the idea that since ancient times the representation of animals has been linked to sacred beliefs (embodied in myths, legends and stories) and materialized in rites and festivals where the mask as an icon of the animal was fundamental. These zoomorphic masks had multiple values, representing the sacred, were powerful magic amulets and, above all, protected from evil and evil spirits away. To this purpose it should apotropaic these recurring motifs. This theory is supported by the teacher’s explanation Lecouteux, grounded in the study of shamanism, which perceives these symbols as the embodiment of the soul or double. Therefore, the very imagery of these stories (symbols of the underworld, trips or night visions, monsters, scary animals, etc.) Obey this order to ward off fears using powerful magical resources protection.

Keywords: myth, iconology, animals, masks, symbols.
ER -
